HI! I’m your Philadelphia Photographer, Diana Smyth.  First and foremost, I am a mother to two amazing little boys, and a wife to an incredible husband. I’m also  a self-proclaimed happiness junkie, and someone who generally considers herself confident and well balanced. While I love that description of myself, the reality is that I live a chaotic life as I juggle the stresses that come with raising children and running a business and just from existing in our modern world. But no matter how messy my hair is or how late we are for soccer practice, I love it all!

Like so many women, my love of photography blossomed following the birth of my first child. I had spent several rewarding years teaching in the Philadelphia School District, committing to a career that I genuinely loved. I always had an interest in photography – specifically telling stories and preserving memories – but I never took it seriously until my first son was born. Like many mothers, I faced an internal struggle. I found it hard to be a full-time mother with a full-time career, so after thinking it over for a year, my husband and I decided that I would stay home. In the days, months and years that followed, photography became my therapy. I took pictures of my son. I wanted to remember every moment, every memory, every look in his eyes.

As a foster child, I do not have photos of myself growing up. I took pictures with my friends as a kid, almost as a way of preserving my past and capturing my legacy. In a way, I had to create my own past. It was up to me to leave my own footprints in the cement. I had to make sure that people knew that I was here, that I existed. But as I struggled to preserve my own journey, I decided that my children would not face this problem. I decided that memorializing every moment would be the most cherished and valuable thing I that I could do for my kids.

I am instinctively drawn to maternity and, specifically, to the creation of life. I love capturing newborns. The idea of beginning a family or growing a family is so precious to me. I love when I get to work with the same family and watch them grow over the years. It warms my heart. It is something I did not grow up with, but I am naturally drawn to it. Family. The bond, the love, the once-in-a-lifetime moments. It truly is beautiful. It’s truly an honour that I have grown along side so many families as thier Philadephia Photographer.

Since starting my journey, I have been fortunate to learn from some of the top child and newborn photographers. I am blessed to have had my photographs published in magazines such as Child Couture and Baby Model Magazine. And I am honored that my work has been recognized by Mainline Family Favorite.

With my passion for newborn and childhood photograph shining as bright as ever, I am excited to meet you and to work with your family for years to come. Please let me capture your magic. Allow me to cement your family’s legacy. Nobody regrets taking photos, but you can regret not taking them.

I’m your Philadephia Photographer!
