5 Style Don’ts for Your Philadelphia Fall Family Photos

5 Style Don’ts for Your Philadelphia Fall Family Photos

It’s that time of year again when Mother Nature fills us with her beautiful colors as we say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. Along with everything pumpkin-flavored, fall is the time for family photos. As a Philadelphia family photographer, I have learned that styling the family can be one of the most significant stressors for many moms. Here are 5 Style Don’ts for your Philadelphia fall Family Photos.

Overly Saturated or Neon Colors.

Avoid neon or overly bright saturated colors as they can divert attention from your family portraits. When you lay your outfits on your bed, the bright color will always catch your eye. As your photographer, my goal is to capture your family, the moment, the giggles, and the hugs as the focal point of the capture, not what you are wearing. If you’re keen on wearing red, consider a muted color like burgundy, which complements other colors better.

Wearing Black and white colors

White is very trendy right now and beautiful. However, consider how it reflects light and can overpower the image. Instead, try a cream or off-white. Many families go straight to black or dark navy. While some can be good, avoid wearing too much of it.

Wrinkles

I know we all hate the Iron! But for your family photos, take the time to iron everyone’s clothes. Wrinkles show up in your pictures. Not only does it show up, but it is also a distraction from your photos. If you are wearing something that wrinkles easily, consider changing it once you arrive at your session. I usually suggest not having your kids change in the location because most kids do not like getting dressed, so avoid wrinkle outfits for kids altogether.

Shoes

Don’t overlook the importance of your shoes when planning your family photos. Consider the location and season-if we’re outdoors in a field, heels might not be the best choice. Opt for shoes that fit the season and location to enhance the overall look of your photos.

Avoiding distractions in your photos is key. My biggest no-no? Athletic shoes. They can detract from your outfit and the overall focus of the image. So, let’s stay clear-minded and keep sneakers out of the picture.

Transitional Lenses

While transitional lenses are popular, consider wearing a different pair for your photo session. The darkening effect of transitional lenses can obscure your eyes, making it look like you’re wearing sunglasses in all your images, which can affect the quality of your photos.
