Take A Class

There are so many wonderful parenting resources in our city, including classes to help you along from childbirth to postpartum to infant CPR classes. You can take a wide variety of classes, empowering you with knowledge and confidence. Start with your birthing center or hospital.
At Jefferson in Center City, you’ll find a prepared childbirth class where you and your partner can learn about the practice, which will provide you with a strong sense of reassurance and care.
Pennsylvania Hospital and Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania offer a comprehensive birthing class. They also provide a tour for you if you are delivering there, ensuring you feel secure and prepared on your day of delivery. In addition, they offer infant CPR and baby care basics.
Mindful Birth: with many locations in the Philadelphia area, they practice meditation and mindfulness practices in their 10-week childbirth class.
Belly Wise: Located in West Philadelphia, this center offers three—and six-week healthy childbirth classes. The classes include nutrition, childbirth, and what to expect during and after pregnancy. In addition to classes, they also offer doula services to assist you during labor.
Blossoming Bellies: This holistic childbirth program, with locations throughout Philadelphia, offers classes in childbirth, pain management, infant care, and breastfeeding. It also offers doula and private classes.
Staying Active
Physical activity is helpful for a healthy pregnancy and for your changing body. Philadelphia offers new moms many excellent options for prenatal to postnatal fitness classes.
Fit4Mom: They offer prenatal fitness classes and Stroller strides after the baby. The best part of Fit4Mom is the sense of community. After the baby arrives, you can work out with your baby in the stroller. Don’t worry if they get fussy; there is always an instructor or a mom to help you.
Mama’s Wellness Joint: offering daily prenatal yoga and Baby Bump Boot Camp for an intense workout. They also provide a variety of parenting workshops and support throughout the year.

Your Registry
As you prepare for the arrival of your new baby, consider starting your registry. I always felt this was an ongoing list; things were sometimes added, and things came off, especially as I learned more. Figuring out what you will need is up to you, and every mom is different, from the right stroller for you to babywearing to bottles and more. Do your research, here is a list of breastfeeding essentials I love: Top Ten Must Haves for Breastfeeding. Don’t leave out talking to other moms, and see what worked for them, and then think about your lifestyle and what you need. This is especially true for your stroller. From joggers to casual walks, I feel Philadephia moms always have the best strollers. You can check out this Baby Check list for the Mom to be.

Safety
The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania offers a comprehensive class on baby safety, including home safety, poison control, and even car seat installation. Check out CHOP; they organize a car seat inspection event in the Greater Philadelphia area. You can always visit your local police or fire department for seat checks.
