Is there anywhere else you want to be to celebrate the birth of our Nation? Philadelphia knows how to celebrate! Living in Philadelphia, this celebration has always been one of my favorites; there is something to do daily as we count down to July 4. Here are my top 14 Family Ways to Celebrate 4th of July in Philadelphia.

June 27: Wawa Hoagie Day!

Get ready to be a part of something special as we kick off the July 4th weekend with a Wawa Hoagie Day Celebration! On June 27, Wawa honors our local heroes by giving away 25,000 free Hoagies. We invite you to join us at Independence Mall at noon for an exceptional performance by the Voice of Service, a singing quartet of military veterans, and enjoy free admission to the National Constitution Center.

Seize the opportunity of free admission to delve into 10,000 years of global history, a treasure trove of knowledge and culture.

 

June 28: Free Museum Day – Fireman’s Hall Museum

Nestled in the heart of Old City Philadephia, this renovated 1898 firehouse is one of our Nation’s premier fire museums. This tour will take your breath away.

The perfect way to end a Saturday night in the city is to display music and fireworks from the United States Army band as they perform an all-star concert, followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the Independence Blue Cross River rink.  

 

June 30: Free Museum Days – Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum

The Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum is one of the world’s most significant collections of racing sports cars, and it is located in Philadelphia! Celebrating the Theme of The Spirit of Competition”. Bring your vehicle-loving kids, big and small. This is sure to be a fun experience. It’s free!

 

June 30: Gospel On Independence – Featuring Tamela Mann

Are you looking for a soul-stirring performance? Bring your chairs and blankets because you Don’t miss the Welcome America Mass Choir and an exceptional guest performance by Grammy award-winning gospel singer and actress Tamela Mann. Seats for this event are limited on a first-come, first-serve basis. Enjoy this amazing free concert on the lawn of Independence National Historical Park.

Bring the whole family to this fun, fantastic event as America’s first zoo celebrates 150 years! Enjoy a visit with your favorite animals and performances, face painting, arts and crafts games, and more. Best of all, free admission is available between 3 pm and 5 pm on a first-come, first-served basis. The zoo closes at 5 pm, so early arrival is recommended.

 

July 1: Free Museum Days – Rodin Museum

Located in the Art Museum area right on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, this free admission treat features one of the world’s most significant collections of Auguste Rodin.  

 

July 2: Go Forth and Learn – Family Fun Day

Get ready for this fun family day brought to you by collaboration with Carpenter’s Hall and the Franklin Institute. This day brings you to live science demonstrations, an interactive Lego Brick Experience, Climate Change activities, and Live Science demonstrations with science performers bringing science concepts from life through the mesmerizing effects of liquid Nitrogen.  

This event starts at 2 pm at Carpenter’s Hall. Have a ball!

If you have yet to visit this unique National Historic Landmark, add it to your list. Have a dino-loving kid at home; make this a stop. The Wagner brings you a Victorian science experience that includes fossils, rocks, minerals, and animals.  

 

July 3: Salute to Service: The United States Army Field Band featuring LeAnn Rimes

Independence National Park 7 pm

Grab your blanket, pack a picnic, and bring the kids! You Won’t Want to miss this beautiful celebration of America the Beautiful—a celebration of everything we love about our Nation on the Visit Philadelphia Stage. Along with the performance, there will be a visual journey across our country with soldiers standing guard over 140 countries.

 

July 4: Celebration of Freedom

Independence Hall 10 am

It kicks off the celebrations right where they started: Independence Hall. Join the Mayor and guest speakers as they present the Wawa Foundation Hero Award and the Celebration Freedom Award given by Freedom Mortgage.  

 

July 4: Salute to Independence parade

Ready! Wear your red, white, and blue and grab a spot along Market Street as the Salute to Independence parade celebrates in style! The parade starts at 11 am on 2nd Street and will go to City Hall.

No other city celebrates the birth of our Nation like Philadelphia! After all, we started it all. This year, on the Parkway, there will be fun activities during the day, leading to a concert that includes performances by DJ Diamond Kuts and Snacktime at 4 pm. The Main stage concert will begin at 7 pm, starting with three-time Grammy Award-winning R&B hitmaker NeYo and Grammy-nominated Kesha. Tickets are not required to enter the Parkway but are necessary to enter the front of the concert.

 

Whether you attend the concert on the Parkway or at home, you will want to head out and grab a nice view of the spectacular fireworks display at the Art Museum.
